Has Forkers changed ownership recently? I remember my first time at Forkers (at least a year ago) as being a positive experience. I remember looking for a place that served a nice, juicy burger to cure a hangover, and I found Forkers to have the perfect remedy at the time.
I wasn't in the mood for your typical McD's or Burger King burgers, so we headed over to the Forkers that's next to Melange Cafe (sorry, I can't remember the street name). Ordered the "Monster Burger" (blue cheese, bacon, spicy sauce) with the dijon dill potato salad & chili cheese fries, some kind of Canadian fries (gravy & cheese on fries), and the spinach artichoke dip.
First the potato salad came out. It looked like 2 piles of mushed up potato with cayanne pepper on top. It was a little bland, but seeing as it's hard to find a place in Taiwan with great potato salad, it was acceptable.
Then the waitress brought out the Canadian fries. Fries with brown gravy & melted cheese. Not great. The gravy tastes like the powdered gravy from a package. It was tasteless & bland on a few bites, and a little too salty on the next. Kind of like someone poured salt in the gravy to add flavor, but forgot to stir it completely.
The real shock to me was the spinach and artichoke dip. It looked all pretty with the multi-colored chips and such, but when I took a bite of the chip & dip, the dip was borderline warm/cold! I've never had a spinach and artichoke dip that wasn't piping hot & steaming before, so I'm not sure if this was what they were going for, but it wasn't good at all. Tastewise, it had more flavor than the other two dishes, but it was kind of weird because it seemed like it had some sort of powdery substance in it, and I'm guessing it was Parmesan cheese that wasn't full incorporated into the dip.
Finally, the "Monster Burger" came out with the chili cheese fries. Long story short, the chili cheese fries tasted like burnt chili, and had barely any cheese (which was melted below chili, so I couldn't see it at all). The burger itself was OK. Decent seeing as there aren't many choices for a great burger here, but there was so little blue cheese on it (like smaller than a 10NT piece & right smack in the middle of the burger). I know that cheese in Taiwan can be expensive, so that might be a reason.
As far as the food goes, it was disappointing. Out of everything I ordered today, I think I enjoyed the pepsi the most.
On the upside, our waitress was nice and attentive, which for Taiwan, is a rarity.
