When posting, especially when starting a new thread, please use a title that explains your post or thread, e.g. don't put "Help please!" when you could put "Where can I find a camp site near Kending?"

Please check your spelling, because someone may do a text search for your information, e.g. if someone searches for information on Xizhi and you have spelled it She Jher, they won't find it. Someone spelled camping as "campin" without a g at the end - again, it can't be found by a text search. For place names in Taiwan, please try to use Hanyu Pinyin as default, as that is the spelling most people know.

Yuh. Except fer it don't smell so good.

I was walking along at one point and suddenly from a pipe about two floors up there was this sploosh of water just like some old lady flushed the toilet.

I don't know why it seemed like an old lady but it did.

I assume they have some plan for the thousands of pipes that run in but honestly I can't imagine what it would be. Gunk has flowing into that sad ass bit of real estate for two hundred and fifty years. It is the low point.

I heard in India what they have started doing in situations like that is just running pipes along the stream on either side and catching what comes in. The pipes then flow to a treatment plant some where.

Btw, that open manhole at the end was actually the last manhole before the thing disappeared beneath the maze of high rises that surround the area. What were the chances of that? That I'd be there with my camera just as these two maintenance workers were popping the lid.

bob, most of us have seen the underbelly of the city. You have seen its rectum. :notworthy:
“Everywhere else in the world is also really old” said Prof. Liu, a renowned historian at Beijing University. “We always learn that China has 5000 years of cultural heritage, and that therefore we are very special. It appears that other places also have some of this heritage stuff. And are also old. Like, really old.”

Actually I went back and looked at the part that is being reconstructed and there are no pipes coming into the "canal" there. Lower down they had a pile of pipes that they were installing too.

Maybe they are going to really clean it up properly.

They started on the project in 2006 and have about 10% of it done. If you want to see it pre-clean up then you will have to get there between now and 2050 or so.

It's just at the Xindian MRT station, under the bridge and beside the river is where it starts.

Yes, I have seen that. Very cool looking, especially with the old pumps.

Way cool Bob.

Yinshui siyuan (飲水思源), as bob no doubt knows, means 'think about where your water comes from.' It's particularly relevant to Taiwan given the importance of being mindful of Taiwan's fragile environment and its forgotten, repressed history.

Thank you.

If anybody is curious where this "a? river" project went you can find it here...

http://www.taiwantrek.com/forums/guest- ... tem-2.html

It's known as "The Danshui River System" over there.

That one is more geared to "promoting" tourism so I'm keeping the gicky bits out of that website and posting them here.
