The Taiwan Weather Thread

Moderator: Tempo Gain

Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

After already breaking the record for the most number of days of 37 or over, a big-arsed high looks set to dominate for the next week and CWB is predicting a run of 7 days of 37C. I wonder if we may even push for the hottest day ever in the next week.

Haha! I have an annual competition with a friend here to see how many times we say those two words during summer.

There is a 'low sandwich' forming later this week so hopefully that will kick up a bit of rain for the south east coast. The one going through the PPE could develop into something.

So, Lupit is not hitting us, but will it drain moisture from us even more?

I was putting ice cubes in the cats' water bowls. Now I am leaving frozen water bottles around for cooling. I wish I trusted the electric system and appliances her enough to leave the AC or the fans on for them. Seriously, this heat is not suitable for man or beast.

Over a thousand people treated for heat stroke so far. And I think that is a very conservative number.

38.5C for Taipei today!

The all-time record is 39.3C, so getting close!

Froggers, my kitties!!! :runaway:

Hope we do not get on a "longest period over 38 degrees".

Fourth typhoon on its way, might change the heat for constant rain next week.

Yipee... not!

What typhoon? There's nothing remotely likely to affect Taiwan that I can see on weather maps. Forecasts over the next week are more of the same as we've been having.

Where'd our afternoon rain go?! The 2-3 weeks we had with afternoon storms were nice - they broke the heat a bit, and more importantly, cleaned up the skies. But now the pollution is piling up again.

ETToday showed windity with a formation, but CWD clear skies.

Third typhoon identified a sthe one over Hainan, not affecting us. Fourth may be affecting us next week, they say, starting 30th.

They must be looking at a different windyty. This is the 30th evening. It doesn't look much different for a few days after.

EDIT - the pressure maps don't really show Taiwan getting much lower than 1005MPa for the next week.
