The 36 was at 10 am. It's now 38, but 1pm is usually peak hot in Taipei so can't see you breaking 40 today.
Seriously? You have got AC, but they turn it off? That sounds like an occupational health and safety issue!
Not to mention reduced productivity - due to people fainting and so forth
Taipei, July 29 (CNA) Temperatures in Taipei reached 38 degrees Celsius Friday, setting a new record, as it was the fifth day this year that the capital has seen a temperature reading of 38 degrees or higher, the Central Weather Bureau said.
The scorching reading was recorded at 12:01 p.m., while Banqiao in neighboring New Taipei registered 37.5 degrees at 11:34 p.m., bureau data shows.
Three of the five days this year of temperatures reaching 38 degrees or higher in Taipei City fell in this week. Taipei recorded a high of 38.5 degrees on both Wednesday and Thursday.
On June 1, temperature in Taipei rose up to 38.7 degrees, the highest ever for the capital in the month of June. It was also the hottest day in Taipei so far this year. A high of 38.2 degrees was recorded on July 17.
The previous record was set in Taipei in 2010 and 2012, when the city saw three days of the mercury at over 38 degrees, forecasters said.
The number of days for Taipei experiencing temperatures topping 37 degrees also reached a new high to 16 days this year, followed by 14 such days in 2003, the bureau said.
