National Holidays 2016

Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

Should be called the 'Ministry for Exploitation of Labor' . Shame on them.

Yeah here in Taiwan have a number of government agencies with Orwellian names: Ministry of "Labor," Environmental "Protection" Administration, and--with all the bruhaha lately about extradictions/forced deportations to the PRC--the Ministry of "Justice." I won't get started on the Ministry of "Education."

Following HHII, feel free to provide these ministries and agencies with more honest names.

Enjoy! :D

From many of his comments, not just from the story above, it's clear to see Chen Hsiung-Wen has the mental capacity of a small lap dog.
Unfortunately he's not alone in Taiwan when it comes to persons in positions of power.

Ministry of economic affairs shall be designated 'Ministry for Effective Pollution of South of Taiwan ' or 'we love it when factories burn stuff as long as our GDP numbers go up but we don't live beside those factories and send our kids overseas for an education'.

What's the deal with Labor Day this Sunday? It seems like the government has labeled Monday a working day even though it was supposed to be a compensation day for Sunday?

I know my gf has work. I also found out a few of my other friends have work too, but I have off. Don't hate me.

Does anyone have the 2017 calendar? I checked the link and it appears as if they haven't posted it yet. Usually it's out by this time of year.

I don't think it has been officially approved but here is the initial plan. I like all of the long weekends but hate the short CNY holiday. This seems to be occurring frequently lately.

Says we have 3 days less off next year than this year. Wonder if that's because the way the days of the week fell this year plus the Leap Day resulted in more total weekend days. Also I am guessing that because CNY falls on a Saturday that it results in one less day off during the work week. Also looks like a lot of four day weekends next year, so a lot of working Saturdays.
