This is a totally hypothetical response, you understand.
But hypothetically, if I had been in the same situation some years ago, and I had a copy of a very similar diploma from the same university, say, I had a real MA diploma and I'd earned a Ph.D, and I just needed to change the name of the degree to make it look just like the legitimate PhD diploma I'd earned but which had not yet been printed, and if I'd happened to make a photocopy of the first and then altered that bit of text to make something one could regard as a visual aid reflecting a reality -- well, that might have functioned to get me a job. Since if the people checked my hypothetical degree, the school would have hypothetically just said yeah, that student did graduate from here with that degree. I'm guessing that changing a name on a diploma would probably work the same way. Hypothetically, of course. Because, you know, I would never do that kind of thing. Nah. But this hypothetical situation requires that the school accept a photocopy rather than the original.
