Taiwanese accusses Indonesian of Kidnapping on MRT

Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

Taiwanese accusses Indonesian of Kidnapping on MRT

Postby nonredneck » 24 Jul 2016, 23:40

I found this video while surfing youtube. Looks like this happened December, 2015 or so.

An Indonesian woman carrying her child back home on the Taipei MRT is accused of kidnapping the child and prevented from leaving the train by Taiwanese.

I found this follow up http://bepo.ctitv.com.tw/2015/12/3561/

which states (using google translate) that the woman was able to prove the child was her own. So fortunately it worked out for the Indonesian woman. But I bet she will be scared of Taiwanese from now on.

Weird TW woman has a few marbles loose. Most Taiwanese would not do that. She just has a bee in her bonnet. Should be arrested for false accusation/ slander.

The TW woman should be taken in to the fuzz as well .

The rest of the Taiwanese act as Taiwanese do (like deer in the headlight) nobody wants to get involved.

I was thinking that if I saw this and let's say I came to her defense and I was wrong and it was a kidnapping, I'd be in trouble. Thus everyone minds their own business.

The lady should have come off the train and IDd herself if she was so sure of her accusation.
I'm glad the MRT staff didn't further harass her

FWIW the article says "the child was continually crying and asking for his mother", and the transit police were "grateful for the involvement of the passengers." That would be a bit weird, but we can't see all of what happened. I'm sure a Taiwanese person in the same situation would stand a better chance of being given the benefit of the doubt.

I would find it really weird. This is not Central America. Kids are not kidnapped here en mass, in spite of the fears. Yes, they are kidnapped to extort money, usually by well funded perpetrators in black cars -wink-, not foreign immigrants with darker skin on the metro.

I meant the boy crying for his mom, when his mom was right there. It's definitely weird enough to attract attention, anywhere.

He wanted the boobie, which was not going to happen on a crowded train.

Though that would have actually made for better television.

Am I the only one who finds the use of "Taiwanese" as a noun unpleasant?
Sounds like my racist Gramma talking about "an EYE-talian".

OK, Mr. Editor, en masse. Must add italics, too?

I mean in massive amounts, in mass then? Flocks? In series? In droves, found it!

There was a very intereting article a few years ago, on how El Coco is still rampant in Central America.

I promise I won't ever use Taiwanese as a noun as soon as Taiwanese stop using foreigners as a noun.

Oh wait..
I moved recently and had to go to a few companies to change my address. They all put me on the phone with customer service and not one forgot to introduce me as a foreigner customer 有外國客人..like how is that even relevant.

But i digress

If the kid was actually crying for mommy this entire video is a non issue
